Foreword from Barbara

Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita
mi ritrovai per una selva oscura,
ché la diritta via era smarrita.(1)

Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.

Ah me! how hard a thing it is to say
What was this forest savage, rough, and stern,

***

I cannot well repeat how there I entered,
So full was I of slumber at the moment
In which I had abandoned the true way.

I first read these lines from Dante’s Inferno at age 18, in an advanced Italian literature class on The Divine Comedy, and they were my awakening to the noble truth of suffering. Not that I was unfamiliar with suffering before that, but I had tried to deny it existed, or blamed myself for it, questioning,

“What’s wrong with me?” as so many of us do. We all find ourselves in that dark woods, some early in life, some later on. Most of us arrive slumbering. Now here was a revered author speaking of the reality of suffering, its causes and a path out.

When I met Aaron I was suffering acutely from the new experience of deafness and my great aversion to it. Gently, Aaron led me on a journey, far more profound than Dante had decades earlier, because Aaron reached my heart, not just my brain.

In this book, Aaron presents the main path on which he had led me for the past 30 years. He calls it The Path of Clear Light. It is my hope that this short but profound book is as life-changing for you as Aaron’s walk with me on this journey has been for me.

May this book be a blessing to all who open it’s covers.

Barbara Brodsky is a dharma teacher who leads meditation retreats and spiritual inquiry workshops worldwide. She is also the channel for the spirit, Aaron, and, with him, has offered personal spiritual direction sessions, classes, meditation retreats and group workshops since 1989.

In his final human lifetime in the 1500s, Aaron tells us he was a Buddhist meditation master in Thailand and found liberation in that lifetime. However, he emphasizes that he is not Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu or any other, though he has participated in all of these traditions. He speaks from the spirit core of his being, from Pure Awareness. Ten books of Aaron’s teachings have been published.

One summer morning in 2000 Aaron said to Barbara, “Let us write a new book,” and proceeded to dictate “Human,” offering one page a day through the summer. It is almost untouched from that original dictation. Each day he picked up at the next word, wherever he had left off, sometimes mid-sentence.

“Human” touches the non-dual heart of Aaron’s teachings. It has been the most beloved of Aaron’s books, but only available in a spiral bound format. We’re delighted to offer this beautiful and accessible new edition. Michael Forster Rothbart’s powerful photographs enrich the presentation.

A word from the Author

This writing is centered around a month-long visit at John of God’s spiritual healing center and sanctuary – the Casa de Dom Ignacio or just “the Casa” – in Brazil during January 2011. While I journeyed there with close friends and acquaintances, I recount here only my own, direct personal experience, starting prior to the actual trip and ending several months afterward. What follows is no so much a travelogue or road journal, but a summary of the most significant experiences, healings, and insights I had at the Casa and afterward. While these occurred within the contaxt of what is called “Spiritism,” they have universal application regardless of the reader’s faith or denomination.

For everyone who has ever said or wondered, “What wold Jesus do?”, here is your answer. Pure and unblemished true-life examples of how Jesus felt about and treated other people, exactly as He encountered them during His time spent living among us.

These stories offer insight into the purity, love and selflessness with which Christ lived. As you read, you can easily plant yourself into each story, and you will be asking yourself not what Jesus would do, but what would YOU do in that situation. You will be awakened to your own divinity and challenged to treat all people with greater understanding, love and compassion.

Developed from the transcripts of nine weekends of joint channeling, The Aaron Q’uo Dialogues emphasizes, “living, thinking, and acting in service to others,” and avoiding the “negative polarity” of focusing exclusively on service to self.

The Aaron Q’uo Dialogues shows how fear – fear of being too human, fear of death and dying, fear of failing to change with the times – holds us back, limiting our full potential and enjoyment of life.

Addressing questions from a wide range of spiritual seekers who attended these sessions, Aaron and Q’uo answer a host of fundamental questions for living with more awareness and compassion. With warmth and humor, these conversations offer the spiritual seeker a valuable template for living a life of selflessness and spiritual peace.
